A Bunch of Stuff is an exploration of how Depp’s artistic practice has both reflected and enriched his life throughout its various stages. At the heart of the exhibition lies the Black Box: a 360-degree visual experience that immerses viewers in the artwork of Johnny Depp.
In collaboration with Tait and E.D. Films, See Creature recreated Johnny Depp’s paintings through stop motion in just a few short months. The animators analyzed his paintings meticulously, dismantling and then reconstructing the art work to give the audience a feeling for the creation of the art.
The canvas texture was inspired by when Johnny was painting outdoors and the only thing to soak up the rain was the Rizla rolling papers close by. The team used this story as the foundation for the whole animated segment, ultimately using over 15,000 small pieces of paper.
